So we have finally reached the North of Palawan and Coron in The Philippines. This has for as long as I can remember been so high on our bucket list and we finally made it here.
Before deciding on where to go for this trip we did a lot of research in where to go since we only had limited of time. We knew for sure that we wanted to visit Palawan and at the beginning we were looking in to El Nido as well as Coron. And after long hours of research and comparison our winner was Coron.
Coron, located in the North of Palawan simply looked like the best option for us. And I was happy to find out during our research that they have developed a protective sustainable program for the region and that there are so many eco tours that care for the beautiful land and that they constantly strive to keep the areas protected for future generations by effectively recycling and not using plastic etc. This is something that we will and can happily support at all times.
Not to mention that Coron is said to have some of the most natural and clearest lakes in the world. We just had to find out more about it.
A roughly one hour flight from the buzzing city of Manila we landed on Busuanga island where the cute little airport is located and we were greeted by a very happy team from Club Paradise.
About a 30-40 min drive later, followed by a not too long boat ride we arrived to the beautiful Dimakya island, nestled away in a UNESCO biosphere reserve and which is one of about 50 minor islets, part of the Calamian archipelago, north of Palawan.
Club Paradise Resort is the only resort on this private island where we would be spending the next coming days.
Already on the boat we were given the cutest bracelets, and of course I had to capture them. Arriving to the island even on a gloomy day the water was crystal clear and we couldn’t wait to jump in.
The main building consists of the reception, the pool area, the pool bar (where we enjoyed many coconuts on a daily basis), and the Firefish restaurant that serves dishes with fresh ingredients straight from their own Taranuman farm that is located nearby.
Upon checking in the whole team welcomed us singing and playing guitar. So much love.
It was a little bit crowded upon checkin and we had to wait for our room for sometime, however we didn´t mind since we just changed in to our swim wear and couldn’t wait to explore the island.
This island is so well taken care of and they protect the surrounding water of the island against illegal fishermen, as well as caring for their reefs and the health and conservation of the marine ecosystem. The staff here is super friendly and we were very happy to be calling this our home for the next coming days. After checking in we were taken by a buggy car to our first Sunrise Villa, located on the other side of the island where you can (as the name says) enjoy the sunrise every morning. I put my alarm for this experience that was simply breathtaking. The Sunrise Villa has a private porch with a beautiful view overlooking the ocean, however on this side it is not very swim friendly as it has too much rocks in the area. But it did not matter to us since the view was just spectacular and just a short walk over to the main building and the main beach area.
After sometime we moved to a sunset Villa. Simply to be able to enjoy the best of both. Our next home was the beautiful sunset Villa. Instead of the sunrise Villa this would be just as the name where the sun will set and this is also located on the more swim friendly beach and closer to the main building. We were also very happy with this Villa and enjoyed the sunset here from our porch.
There are many things to do and even though it is a secluded island with a quiet and relaxing environment, it never feels boring in any way. You can get snorkel gear from the diving center next to the pool area and snorkel one of many sights around the island. And if you´re very lucky you might spot one or many of the famous sea turtles here on the island. Unfortunately we did not spot any this time.
The Club Paradise Palawan also have kayaks that you can rent free of charge and explore the island from the sea.
They also organize different tours, both nearby and longer island hopping tours if you would like to see something else.
Should you wish to dine alone with your loved one and enjoy some extra romance? ( Like it´s not romantic enough on this breathtaking island hehe) Private dinner on the beach can also be organized with help from the hotel.
Right on the beach next to the main building and the reception area there are two massage cabanas where we had a traditional Hilot massage during sunset. After so many long hours of traveling this was so enjoyable and relaxing to us. Hearing the ocean breeze and with my love next to me, this was truly something I highly appreciated and needed on this stay.
Good to keep in mind:
Wifi is available in all common areas as well as in the Villas. But keep in mind that it is still island life and the internet might not always be working perfectly fine or have the speed that you´re used to. But I personally think that island life is not meant to be that you´re constantly connected. This is the time to come and unwind and relax without stress and worries.
If you want a busy schedule with loads of action, this might not be the place for you however, I must say that I was impressed with how many things there are to see and do even though it is a private island and we almost felt that our time was not enough.
We had a great time at the Club Paradise resort. I love to keep the balance in life between zen and busy. Living a balanced life is the key my friends. Now we are moving on to our next adventures. So stay tuned.
